A heated moment unfolded in the European Parliament after a Danish lawmaker openly criticized former US President Donald Trump over his renewed interest in Greenland. The incident has drawn global attention, highlighting rising tensions between the United States and Europe over the strategic Arctic region.
During a debate focused on US involvement in Greenland, Danish Member of the European Parliament Anders Vistisen delivered a blunt message aimed directly at Trump, stating that Greenland is not for sale and never will be.
Strong Words During EU Parliament Session
Speaking at the EU’s legislative body, Vistisen, 38, addressed Trump in unusually harsh language. He reminded the chamber that Greenland has been part of the Danish kingdom for nearly 800 years and remains an integrated and autonomous territory.
“Greenland is not for sale,” Vistisen said firmly. He then shocked lawmakers by adding, “Mr President, f*** off,” a remark that quickly went viral across social media platforms.
Footage from the session shows visible reactions across the chamber as the comment echoed through the hall.
Parliament Leadership Intervenes
Following the remark, European Parliament Vice President Nicolae Stefanuta interrupted the speech and warned Vistisen about violating parliamentary rules.
“We have clear rules about curse words and inappropriate language in this room,” Stefanuta said, stressing that such expressions are unacceptable, regardless of political emotions.
After the warning, Vistisen apologized and continued the remainder of his speech in Danish.
Why Greenland Matters to Trump
Trump has repeatedly argued that Greenland is vital for US and NATO security, especially as melting Arctic ice opens new shipping routes and access to valuable mineral resources. He has claimed that control of the region is necessary to counter growing influence from Russia and China.
The former US president has recently increased pressure on European nations, even threatening tariffs of up to 25 percent on several countries that support Denmark’s position on Greenland.
Rising Tensions Between the US and Europe
The incident comes at a sensitive time in global politics. Trump has openly mocked European leaders ahead of his appearance at the World Economic Forum, turning the Greenland issue into a major point of international debate.
European leaders, meanwhile, have warned of countermeasures if trade threats become reality, signaling a possible escalation in transatlantic tensions.
A Debate That Refuses to Cool Down
While Greenland remains firm in its stance that it is not for sale, the issue continues to expose deep divisions between the US and Europe over Arctic strategy, sovereignty, and global power competition.
The sharp exchange in the European Parliament has ensured that Trump’s Greenland ambitions remain firmly in the global spotlight.
