Bombardier wins $800 million contract in Singapore

Bombardier Transportation announced Thursday that it will deliver 396 new metro cars to Singapore, under a contract valued at approximately US $607 million (C$792 million).

The order includes an option for long-term support services, which could increase the value of the contract to US $881 if exercised.

Movia metro cars will be used for the two Mass Rapid Transit lines, which cover 102 kilometers and serve 61 stations. Some 1.8 million passengers use them daily.

At the end of this new order, Singapore’s fleet of metro cars will include 672 Bombardier Movia vehicles, one of Bombardier’s largest metro fleets in the world, according to the railroad equipment manufacturer.

Meanwhile, Bombardier Transportation said on Thursday it had reached an agreement with French services group Engie to award it a five-year contract valued at 290 million US dollars.

Under this agreement, Engie will be responsible for facility management, building maintenance and production maintenance, in addition to various other services, for Bombardier Transportation’s industrial facilities.

Bombardier believes that this agreement will allow it to better focus on its core businesses and increase its efficiency.
