US Bombs Iran’s Kharg Island, Warns Oil Facilities Could Be Next as Middle East War Escalates

Kharg Island
US bombs Iran’s Kharg Island and destroys military targets. Trump warns oil facilities could be next as explosions hit Tehran and tensions rise across the Middle East.

The war in the Middle East has grown more serious after the United States launched airstrikes on Iran’s key oil hub, Kharg Island. The attack has raised fears that the conflict between Iran, Israel, and the United States could spread further across the region.

US President Donald Trump said American forces destroyed Iranian military targets on the island. He also warned that oil facilities there could be attacked if Iran threatens global shipping routes.

US Says Military Targets Destroyed

Trump said US forces carried out heavy strikes on Kharg Island and “obliterated” the military targets located there.

However, he said the United States did not attack the oil infrastructure on the island during this operation.

Trump added that the US could target the oil facilities if Iran interferes with ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes.

Why Kharg Island Is Important

Kharg Island is very important for Iran’s oil exports. Even though the island is small, it handles around 90 percent of Iran’s oil exports.

Oil from major Iranian fields is sent to the island through pipelines. From there, the oil is stored and then loaded onto large tankers for export to other countries.

Experts say the island processes nearly 950 million barrels of crude oil every year. Because of this, Kharg Island is considered the main centre of Iran’s oil trade.

If the island’s oil facilities are damaged, Iran’s economy could face serious problems.

Explosions Reported in Tehran

At the same time, reports said large explosions were heard in Iran’s capital Tehran.

A correspondent from Al Jazeera said huge blasts shook parts of the city. The explosions happened shortly after thousands of people gathered in Tehran to support Palestinians and protest against attacks by the US and Israel.

Missile Strike Near US Embassy in Baghdad

In another incident, Iraqi officials reported that a missile struck a helipad at the US Embassy compound in Baghdad.

Officials did not immediately confirm casualties, but the attack raised concerns that the conflict could spread further in the region.

Rising Death Toll in the Region

The war has already caused heavy loss of life.

Reports say nearly 1,450 people have been killed in Iran since the conflict began on February 28 after strikes by the US and Israel.

In Lebanon, an Israeli attack on a health centre in the south killed 12 medical workers. The total number of deaths in Lebanon from Israeli strikes has now reached 773 people, including 103 children.

Gulf Countries Issue Warnings

Countries in the Gulf region are also becoming worried about the growing conflict.

Authorities in Qatar and Bahrain have issued warnings to residents as Iran continues missile and drone attacks.

Officials fear that the war could affect more countries if the fighting continues.

Global Oil Supply at Risk

The conflict is also affecting the global oil market. The Strait of Hormuz is a key route where about 20 percent of the world’s oil supply passes every day.

Any attack on oil infrastructure or shipping in this area could cause oil prices to rise and create problems for global energy supply.

With Kharg Island at the center of Iran’s oil exports, analysts say further attacks on the island could have serious effects on the global economy.

Tensions Continue to Rise

With airstrikes, missile attacks, and rising casualties across the Middle East, tensions remain very high.

The warning from Washington about possible attacks on Iran’s oil facilities has increased fears that the conflict could turn into a larger regional war.
