Studio Display XDR Comes with Mini-LED

The Studio Display XDR has a 27-inch 5K Retina XDR screen with mini-LED backlighting. It includes 2,304 local dimming zones. This helps improve contrast and makes dark areas look deeper.

Apple says the display offers:

  • 1,000 nits normal brightness
  • 2,000 nits peak HDR brightness
  • 120Hz refresh rate with Adaptive Sync

It supports P3 and Adobe RGB color and covers more than 80% of the Rec. 2020 color space. This makes it good for video editors, photographers, and designers.

The display also includes:

  • 12MP Center Stage camera
  • Desk View feature
  • Three microphones
  • Six-speaker system with Spatial Audio

The Studio Display XDR replaces the older Pro Display XDR in Apple’s lineup.

Updated Studio Display Gets Better Connectivity

Apple also refreshed the standard Studio Display. It keeps the 27-inch 5K Retina screen with 600 nits brightness.

The updated model now includes:

  • Two Thunderbolt 5 ports
  • Two USB-C ports
  • Up to 96W charging power

The speaker system has four force-cancelling woofers and two tweeters.

Apple says users can connect up to four Studio Display units together when using a MacBook Pro with M5 Max.

More Power with Thunderbolt 5

Both displays support Thunderbolt 5. The Studio Display XDR can provide up to 140W charging power using a Thunderbolt 5 Pro cable. This helps charge powerful laptops faster.

Earlier internal system files had shown two different display models with different audio drivers and port controllers. The official launch now confirms Apple is offering two versions with different features.

Medical Imaging Feature Coming Soon

Apple also added DICOM medical imaging presets to the Studio Display XDR. This feature is waiting for approval in the United States. It will work through the Medical Imaging Calibrator in macOS.

This may help Apple enter the medical and healthcare display market.

Price and Availability

Pre-orders start on March 4. The displays will be available from March 11 on Apple’s website and in select stores in 35 countries.

Prices:

  • Studio Display starts at $1,599
  • Studio Display XDR starts at $3,299

Both models are available with standard glass or nano-texture glass.

Strong Financial Performance

The launch comes as Apple continues strong financial growth. The company recently reported $435.62 billion in revenue and a gross margin of 47.33%. Apple’s total market value is about $3.89 trillion.

Apple also recently launched the iPhone 17e starting at $599 with 256GB storage. Analysts from Goldman Sachs and Evercore ISI kept positive ratings after the product announcements.

At the same time, the tech industry faces challenges. IDC says the global smartphone market may fall by 12.9% in 2026 due to memory chip shortages. Meanwhile, Amazon announced a $50 billion investment in OpenAI to expand AI infrastructure.

Apple Focuses on Premium Displays

With the Studio Display XDR, Apple is targeting professionals who need high brightness, strong HDR, better sound, and fast connectivity. The updated Studio Display offers improved ports and audio for regular creative users.

The new displays show that Apple is strengthening its position in the professional monitor market while continuing to focus on premium products.
