Trump Rejects Reports That Top US General Warned Against Iran Strike

US President Donald Trump has strongly denied media reports claiming that America’s top military officer raised concerns about the risks of attacking Iran.

In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump called the reports “100 percent incorrect” and accused the media of spreading false information. He said General Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is not against military action.

“General Caine, like all of us, would like not to see war,” Trump wrote. “But if a decision is made on going against Iran at a military level, it will be something easily won.”

Reports of Pentagon Concerns

Several major news organizations reported that General Caine had privately raised concerns during internal meetings. According to Axios, the general was more cautious about Iran compared to earlier operations, including a January raid in Venezuela.

The report said Caine viewed a large military operation against Iran as risky, especially because it could lead to American casualties and a longer conflict.

Other reports from The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal stated that Pentagon officials warned about possible shortages of critical munitions. US stockpiles have already been stretched due to support for Ukraine and continued defense cooperation with Israel.

However, none of the reports claimed that Caine was directly opposing war. Instead, they suggested he was outlining possible risks and challenges.

Trump Says Decision Is His Alone

Trump made it clear that the final decision on military action rests with him.

“I am the one that makes the decision,” he said, while adding that he would prefer a diplomatic deal over war.

Still, the president warned that if negotiations fail, the consequences for Iran would be serious. “If we don’t make a deal, it will be a very bad day for that country,” he said.

Military Options and Past Operations

Sources familiar with internal discussions said that General Caine recently presented a range of strike options to Trump and senior national security officials.

Trump also praised Caine for his role in a past operation known as “Midnight Hammer,” which targeted Iran’s key nuclear facilities last June. The president described the general as someone who “only knows one thing — how to win.”

Earlier, Trump said he was considering limited strikes if nuclear talks do not move forward.

Ongoing US-Iran Nuclear Talks

At the same time, Washington and Tehran are still negotiating over Iran’s nuclear program. The United States wants a deal that would prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. Iranian officials, however, have rejected demands that would fully end their nuclear activities.

The next round of talks is expected soon, keeping diplomacy alive even as military pressure continues in the region.

Growing Tensions in the Middle East

The United States has maintained a strong military presence in the Middle East, including aircraft carriers, warships, and combat aircraft. This buildup shows that while negotiations are ongoing, Washington is also preparing for possible escalation.

The situation highlights a clear difference between public political messaging and internal military assessments. While Trump projects confidence and strength, reports suggest military leaders are carefully weighing the risks of any large-scale conflict.

President Trump has firmly denied reports that his top general warned against striking Iran. While media outlets reported internal caution from Pentagon officials, Trump insists that any military action would be successful and decisive.

For now, diplomacy continues. But with strong words from both sides and military forces already positioned in the region, tensions between the United States and Iran remain high.
