Putin's-Remarks-on-Kamala Harris-Cause-Stir-in-the-US
President of Russia, Vladimir Putin recently made comments about US Vice President Kamala Harris that have caused a stir in the United States. Putin’s remarks on Kamala Harris clearly mention support Harris in the upcoming 2024 US presidential election, have left many puzzled, including former President Donald Trump.
While speaking at Vladivostok, Russia in economic forum, Putin jokingly said that he was “supporting” Kamala Harris. He also called to current President Joe Biden “our favorite”. Putin made light of Harris’s well-known laugh, saying that since she laughs so expressively, it shows she is doing well. He even hinted that if Harris is in good spirits, she might not impose more sanctions on Russia.
Putin’s comments on Kamala Harris led to mixed reactions in the United States. Because of this, former President Donald Trump seemed unsure for how to take Putin’s words. At a meeting in New York, Trump said he didn’t know whether to feel insulted or whether Putin was doing him a favor. Trump has often spoken about his positive relationship with Putin and even suggested that Putin would only release a detained American journalist if Trump were elected again.
The White House, however, did not find Putin’s remarks amusing. John Kirby, a spokesperson for the White House, strongly urged Putin to stop talking about the US elections and to avoid interfering. He emphasized that only the American people should have a say in who becomes the next president.
Following the comments, a Kremlin spokesperson clarified that Putin does not have contact with Donald Trump. This was in response to Trump’s earlier claims about his special relationship with the Russian leader.
Putin’s remarks have sparked confusion and concern in the US, especially with the presidential election approaching. While some may see his comments as a joke, the reactions from Trump and the White House show how seriously the issue of foreign influence in US elections is taken.
