Of the respondents, only 5% expect to be personally affected by Greyhound’s withdrawal. A quarter of respondents say they know at least one person, who is not part of the same household, who will be affected by the withdrawal of Greyhound.

When Greyhound announced its withdrawal from service in the West, it said ridership has dropped by 41% since 2010. The Angus Reind poll shows that half of the adults surveyed used a Greyhound bus in their life. Of these, 44% say they used this service more than 10 years ago.

Respondents also provided feedback on provincial and federal responsibility for funding these bus services. When asked if the provincial should be the order of government that deals with this funding, 64% of those surveyed said yes. With respect to the idea that the federal government is responsible for funding, 60% of respondents supported this statement.

Recently in Alberta, a pilot rural transportation program was launched by Premier Rachel Notley. She said that this issue, which affects all the provinces of western Canada, must be treated as a national problem.
